The SLX Template editor is soooooo frustrating to work with. Seems to have a mind of its own when it comes to pasting HTML docs that have been copied from IE or FF. Loses formatting (inconsistently) and is extrememly frustrating.

The problem here is that we have vendors who have marketing material predone on their websites. So you would think that doing a CTRL-A, CTRL-C on the web page and then doing a CTRL-V in the Template editor would be simple enough. It isn't. At least now in any manner that I've seen.

Has anyone had any success doing this or know how to fix whatever the default templete the Template editor uses?

Thanks,
John G.

John,

Most of the formatting is how the tabs are displayed. If you have your tab stops set to 4 spaces in one environment, and 2 spaces in another, that definitely gets reformatted. Are there other formatting changes that get lost?

Is it possible to just have people map a network drive and open the templates directly from whatever application they choose? Any good text editor will work for the web templates.

As for the "Use External Editor" checkbox in the web manger, I'm assuming it uses the default editor specified in the OS. I'm assuming if you change that, it will open with that editor.

Just some thoughts, don't know if they'll help.

Jeff,

We are creating HTML forms outside of the template editor (which is using MS Word) and it depends on the time of day, what planets are aligned and the weather outside on what aspect of the HTML is changed. Seriously, we create a HTML table, put stuff in it and what will change are font sizes (really small), lost of bolding, the table border being something completely different or full justification being turned on. Its really annoying.

This is the first that I've heard of the 'Use External Editor' checkbox. Can I assume you are speaking about the web version of SalesLogix. If so, then that probably does not apply for us since we are using the desktop client.

John,

Yep, I was speaking of the web manager. I think I have a better idea of what you're doing, and I don't have much more to offer. I shudder in fear to think of what Word does with its HTML. I've seen its generated HTML before, and it scares me.

Sorry I wasn't more of a help...

Jeff,

No problem. And I agree, what Word does with HTML is pretty scary. You'd think when using Microsoft products there would be no difference between them (e.g. between IE and Word)
