fiogf49gjkf0d Hi Guys and Gals!
Well, 7x has been out for a short bit and I thought I'd do a quick survey from you adventerous types that have implemented it in a PROD situation. I know from a back-end perspective; it is ever so much better. However, from a front-end user perspective; what is the field saying? How are the user's receiving it? Are the servers stable? LAN, WEB, AUX?

Ha! Yeah, right, in production. I'm still working on reading the Upgrading from 6.2 to 7.0 doc! Although I do plan on having it in a testing environment in the next week. We have a couple customizations that need to be updated I'm sure.
I am hoping to have it in production before the customer conference, with any luck.
I'll keep ya posted.

fiogf49gjkf0d If I had the time, we'd already be upgraded. Large Fonts fix, consistent UI, and other cosmetic changes are why I'm pushing to upgrade now rather than later. Everyone considers it more of a service pack than a major release anyway, so it doesn't really make sense to wait until SP1 this time around. If I had to recut remotes and had a known issues list a mile long, then I may wait but everything seems relatively tame this time around.
I'm notoriously meticulous when it comes to our upgrade process. Anal mode is primed and ready for go, I'm just waiting until I can devote the proper time to the endeavor. From the preliminary work I have done, it should be as breezy as our upgrade to 6.2 (largely due to the fact that I dropped Legacy off at 6.1's house). |

fiogf49gjkf0d I have only managed to find the time to upgrade on our test server. The upgrade went as expected with one gotcha right off the bat.
You need to upgrade the database before you install the new version. So make sure you run the upgrade utlity before you install the admin and servers. They remoive the old version and you can't get it to log in unless you have done the upgrade. !! I saw in Mike Spragg's post this was supposed to be fixed, I am using a client beta version so maybe on the disc they sent it has been corrected. With the new leads leads functionality I have quite a bit more of user configuration to add now. Also we had been using our own dashboards that I mocked and the new dashboards are soooo much better I just have to make the changes for them.
The basic upgrade is standard SLX items... Create Customization Bundle, Upgrade DB, Upgrade Servers, Upgrade client, Upgrade Crystal, Add bundles from disk, add customization bundle, PRAY..!!
Based on our internal structure, we work in a "wrapped" environment, servers too.. the actual upgrade won't happen until like 2Q next year. |

This was the norm for our 6.1 and 6.2 installs. I would use our backup server with the old version of SalesLogix and it's own copy of SQL to run the upgrade utility. Remove everything from the production server and get it squeeky clean, as if nothing was ever installed. Install SalesLogix from scratch then restore the upgraded database. Run through the remaining upgrade procedures and then finalize it on the production machine. This created a staging area where the backup server basically did some of the preliminary work then passed the database off to the production to finish it off.
I did this mainly because I'm severely anal when it comes to our core software. I never upgrade operating systems, Office, or SalesLogix. I have upgraded from Windows 98 to ME and back to 98 on a company laptop before so I'm not afraid of upgrades, I just like knowing there's nothing the upgrade process left behind. |
