If you're writing your own reports, then just add them to Crystal Enterprise. If you want to run the ones which come with SLX you need to check them out first, before adding to Crystal Enterprise.

The only issue I can think of is you may not be able to use the SLX OLEDB provider if you can't install it on the server where Crystal Enterprise is running. If you can't, you can use an ODBC connection if you set up a user with read permissions on the tables. But if you do this be aware you bypass SLX security, and date/time columns will become an issue.

We are running BO Enterprise XI R2 here and have a couple reports on it that uses the SalesLogix 7.0.1 database as the source.

I would advise installing the SLX OLE-DB on the BO Enterprise server. It will make life much easier for you. Especially when publishing reports to Enterprise from SalesLogix.

What we have been doing in Enterprise is schedule reports to be automatically generated and emailed to managers. Mostly these are custom opportunity and history reports.

The only caveat I'm remembering right now is with modifying an Enterprise report via Crystal XI R2. When you are done modifying the report you will have to log into Enterprise and re-enter the login information for the report. For whatever reason after modifying the report the Enterprise login information has to be reentered.

Something to remember is you may have a report in SLX AND Enterprise. When you update the one in SLX (or Enterprise) you will have to update the other. Basically you have to copies of the same report to maintain.

I did install SLX OLEDB provider (client). Whenever I am trying to run the report it asks me for slx username and password. Entering the username & password does not produce any results. Is it possible to hardcore the username and password.. what am i doing wrong?

We are using Business Objects Enterprise Pro XI. Is this what you mean? If so, then what you do in BOXI is

1) Go to the Central Management Console
2) Navigate to the report object you want to set login information for
3) Select the 'Process' tab
4) Select the 'Database' subcategory under the 'Process' tab
a) You should see your SalesLogix server name on the left under 'Data Sources:'
b) If there are more than one datasource, highlight one and proceed with the following
5) You should now be in a section where the description says, Set the default information for logging onto the data source(s) automatically whenever the report is run.
6) Select the first option, 'Use original database logon information from the report'
7) Enter the server, database, user and password for the report - eg. SLXServer, SALESLOGIX, ADMIN, password
8) Scroll to the very bottom of the page where the 'When viewing report:' section is.
9) Select 'Use same database logon as when report is run'
10) Click the 'Update' button located at the bottom of the page.

If there were more than one datasource, highlight the next datasource you want to set login information for and go back to step 5.

That should do it. When you run the report no login information will be asked for.

Also remember the database login information in this section must be updated if you edit the report in anyway.

Oh... something else to mention. I don't think its possible to run Crystal XI R2 reports in Crystal Enterprise 8.5, 9 or 10. As of XI its all known as Business Objects Enterprise Professional XI R2.

You have to set the information for each data source listed on the left under "Data Sources:" If there are more than one you have to highlight each and enter the login information

Have you double checked the login information? Remember to use admin as the username and password if you are using the SLX OLEDB provider.
