We have SLX 6.2.6 web installed including web reporting that uses Crystal Enterprise 8. We've had this set of software and servers installed since Sept 06.

Starting this week, when you try to run a production report, it opens the report list, and after selecting a report it opens the crystal viewer, but does not open the prompt window. Trying the same thing in our development environment works fine. So I swapped development and production web reporting servers, and the same thing happens - production (using dev reporting server) does not open the prompt window, but development (using the former production reporting server) DOES open the prompt window.

No recent Windows patches or SLX changes. Sage found a crviewer.dll of version 8.5.0.473 on the web reporting servers, so their only answer now is to uninstall / cleanup / and reinstall.

Suggestions? Seems like it is not the servers, rather the network environments.

I have seen this a few times before - I even have wrote an auto-it script for it if you would like to see it...

First I would try to copy down fresh copies of (from a working system) and re-register the Crystal dlls. The ones that I re-register specifically to fix this problem is:

craxdrt.dll
crtslv.dll
crviewer.dll
exportmodeller.dll

And for reference - here is a post that has ALL the Crystal dlls listed.

Without changing any parts of the application or installation, we rebooted the production web server and that resolved the issue.

While I was trying different things yesterday, I noticed that our development environment worked correctly after rebooting the development web server. I scheduled a reboot of the production web server for last night, and now prompting works. So it was a network glitch (technical term) that I will now search for that occurred sometime over the last 5 days.
