Could anyone recommend a tool / product / way in which a calendar report of SLX activities can be generated?

The requirement is for a one-page report, not so different from that produced by File / Print Calendar Reports, which shows the upcoming activities of (run-time) selected users (and this is why the SLX one is not sufficient in this case - it allows the selection of only one user at a time).

Thanks for any input.
Phil

Hi Phil,
I would think that you can use Crystal. If your problem is producing a more-than-one-across type of report, you could first (pre-execution script) run a routine in VBA to produce records for each physical line across (ie: with more than one activity). And then use that temp table in the report.

Thanks Bob

I have fired up Crystal (and I do that as infrequently as possible!) and there is no in-built facility for generating calendar reports as far as I can see. This client wants something pretty, similar to what Outlook may produce. Trying to script that stuff is not my idea of fun, there must be a tool out there that can do it for me

I'm not sure but it may be possible to use the "cross-tab" feature in Crystal to print multiple across sections on a report. Another method would be to create a temp table containing records for each individual line with say 5 sections (fields). A pre-execution script could then be employed to gather the data and parse it out over the various sections. Then use that temp table as input to Crystal.

I haven't look to see how Slx prints the calendar report you mentioned, but it might be worth a look as it uses a pre-execution dialog.

Phil , You asked for a Tool or a product(afaik , cr 8.5 cannot do this)

Why dont you get your developers to use the calendar control in visual studio to create a Win/Web app which has an calendar control and get that to open inside your SLX Client. This technically can be done as i have done it in aspnet years back..(do not have the code handy though)

Other than this, why dont you check the slgxapi docs to see of the api exposses something in this regard.

- 'my developers' eh? That would be ... me!

Thanks for the idea, I will check it out for sure.

Well, I've just been checking out the calendar control in VS2005 and cannot see any way of opening it in 'Show Only The Days in This Month' mode, with event data dragged from a database displayed in it. Did you achieve this?

Thanks

At the risk of being accused of spamming, we have a not-in-general-release program called "CalendarMagix" that can do this... I wouldn't recommend trying to write your own app unless you're up for figuring out the activity recurrence scheme (or unless you never have any recurring activities).

I'll have to see what kind of shape the program's in, but if you can give me a couple of days, it would be a lot cheaper to just buy a couple of licenses for that than try to develop it yourself - again, depending on your need for recurring activities.

Thanks John. I can't see how this could ever be construed as spam - it's useful info. Please let me know the details when you can - I have a demanding client and zero options so far.

I was even starting to wonder whether I could build an Outlook pst file solely for this purpose and export SLX data to that - prior to using Outlook to print the report - so you can see I'm really scraping the barrel here.

I did not see any followup on this. Is CalendarMagix ready for review?
