Hi all,

I have to write a report that shows an Account, and all the child accounts (as defined by the ACCOUNT.PARENTID field), and then all the children of the children, etc, etc, etc.

Basically, there is no way to know how many levels deep I'll need to go.

The client also wants to see the Contacts for each account at each level... and yes, they need to be able to print it (which is why I need to use Crystal)

Any ideas how? I can't see any easy way to do it.

Anyone got one already written they'd like to share?

Antony

Crystal has a recursive function for this - it actually has a relationship type report as one of the samples. Open that and just follow that sample.

Thanks Mike, that looks pretty close to what I want. Anyone know how to filter it to a specific starting point, so that I can specify the top level and show everything from there down?

Antony,
While you are on the topic. I'm not sure if you have ran into this yet.

Just a heads up, the default Hierarchy view in SalesLogix can hang if it creates a loop. I had a case where at some point a user linked an account as its own parent or back to the original parent at some point creating a loop and it crashed.

To correct the problem I added a function to store a list of accountid's as it was building the hierarchy view and it checks to see if the account is already in the list before it continues and warns the user and exits the function if a duplicate is found.
