Subreport Grouping

Hi,
I'm hoping someone could help me here.
I have a SubReport in Crystal8.5, which reads off a Comments Table, firstly i group by the Type, and then display the Comments for that Type in the detail. It displays however many records i have against that type. Now a requirement has come in to only display the last comment for each Type. Fine, so i order by CreateDate DESC, but the Group Expert is disabled in the Crystal Designer. I've also tried using the OnFirstRecord, but i'm not really sure how this works.
Can anyone please offer some suggestions? I would really appreciate it.
I even tried changing the SQL Query myself, but when i change, eg. Select Top 1 Comment, it doesnt save once i click ok.
