Anyone using Visual Analyzer in Production?

| Has anyone implemented this new (re-released) product from Sage into production since the May 2007 release? How well does it work in a web-only environment (we have 6.2.6 and SQL Server)? |

Re-released? I didn't know Visual Analyzer was something else before. Is it just the sales dashboard renamed? Or is it the pre-6.2 version of the opportunity analyzer - or whatever it was called?
Anyway, we are going to attend the webinar for Visual Analyzer to see what it can do and how we can apply it here. Did you sign-up for that?

| I am signed up for the webinar next week. According to our business partner, Sage purchased the product from QlikTech and is in the process of re-branding it as a Sage solution. Before Sage purchased the product, it was known as iReports. So I'm wondering how well iReports worked, and I am looking forward to learn how this product will work. |

A - "iReports" was NOT the property of Qlik.. it was developed by "Sage folks" as a custom for a client..
B - Sage owns the IP (Intellectual Property) known as iReports and has re-branded it Visual Analyzer
C - VA has a "run-time" in it from Qlik
D - You need to purchase a "Qlik" license if you want to customize VA
E - VA is only available via BP's
F - VA is not "free" but there is (or was) a "trial license"
G - BP's are supposed to be formally certified in Qlik/VA before selling it

RJ you are right on.
Might I add that it is not just another dashboard - it is far more and pretty stunning.
I wouldnt want to be pegged as an advertiser here but I saw VA a few months ago and it is shocking how nice it is!

I have been using Qlikview/iReports for quite some time now, and it is indeed very cool.
But to get back to your original question about web support - i am guessing that it won't work.
That doesn't totally kill your options though - Qlikview has what they call a "Zero Footprint Client".
You would have to go through a translation process to migrate your stuff, but I seem to recall it was not a hugely painful process.
Licensing would have to be done through Qlikview, and it would not be integrated with SalesLogix.
(i.e. no click back to groups).
If you want to see examples of Zero Footprint - go to www.qlikview.com they have some cool apps you can play with online without installing any software on your machine. There is one called "The Wine Press" that is fun - let's you analyze food / wine combinations.

Ah.. Ok.. I was thinking it was a 3rd party product Sage had included with SLX previously. iReports was really a 3rd party add-on. I'm all caught up now

So, based on the title of the webinar product screen "iReports 2.0", this is the next generation of iReports. And, since we are 100% web, we would need to touch every business customer computer to install something until a future version where this is integrated as a new icon in the web page.
I'm not sure this product will be used by my customer. |

$400 for Visual Analyzer and I'm thinking wow this thing is going to RULE!
$4000 for QlikView Studio which is REQUIRED to use any custom tables in SLX or DBs outside of SLX.
So it goes from "incredible" to "MEH!" in about $3600 bucks. |

Sounds like you've never priced out BI software before.
Qlikview at $4k is an incredible bargain, especially if you look at the competition.
A runtime for $400/user is a steal.
The ROI on being able to analyze your data is huge.

Is the Visual Analyzer customizable? As we quickly found with the Sales Dashboard, we could not customize it. I need a tool to look at customized tables and analyze the data accordingly.
Anyone know?  |

I have a couple of customers with it running in production, with custom data.
In order to load custom data you need the QlikView Enterprise to customize the Loading Script to gather your custom data.
I use in part the Loading script to reduce the data and to calculate several metrics so that they are available once loaded.

We purchased QlikView about 1 year ago, before they starting dating Sage. It's an awesome product, and we are using it in production with our heavily customized SLX database. Frankly, though, after a year of using it we are still in our pre-pubescence period with the product. My bullet points about Qlik at this point are...
1. Qlik is a development platform all to itself. The executives can't understand why it takes so long to develop a Qlik application. But once they get one, they want more. Invest in the training up front.
2. Qlik makes a cloud in memory of all your data, so be careful what you ask it to load. We have a serious amount of data to analyze, so the 32 bit version would run out or memory all the time. The x64 version suited us much better.
3. We found that when Qlik was reading our large tables in the production database, the 200 users would report lock-ups in SLX. In order to obtain the real-time reporting that the executives wanted, we had to set-up replication of the SLX database. Qlik now reads from the replicated DB during business hours. Caution - Replication is another huge hurdle when dealing with SalesLogix databases.
4. The security in Qlik Server leaves a lot to be desired, but I can live with it. You basically have either NT folder security, or a method of loading users through the script via an external user table. Security was definately and after-though for these folks.
5. Don't skimp on the Qlik enterprise licenses (for your developers) or the Server CAL's (for viewing reports via a browser.) They are very expensive, but worth it. The cheaper professional licenses are a waste of money in my opinion.
6. Qlik licensing doesn't provide for a "Test" Qlik Server and a "Production" Qlik Server without purchasing two server licenses. This needs to change if they want to play with the big companies.
It sounds like I'm not happy with the product - but I am. There are certain deficiencies, but you could argue that about SalesLogix as well! |
