Hi Kevin,

I don't have much to go on here, I'm afraid. Which version are you using?

Have you done all the correct stuff to establish an ODBC connection and built the query?

Where are you not seeing the data?

BTW There is a forum, Alerts & Workflow, for questions of this sort.

Well basically when adding a new ODBC connection within Orbis Taskcentre the only options I get to when filling in the product to select to are SQL Server, Oracle, Easysoft and Datadirect. How do I configure this to pick up the JET driver?

Cheers
Kevin

Having the "correct" drivers is not a TC issue. I just tested it (connect to Access db) on both v4.1 and v4.5 TaskCentre.. works like a champ!

I just looked at the MDAC 2.8 download from Microsquish.. it says the JET drivers are NOT in it.

This release does not include Microsoft Jet, the Microsoft Jet OLE DB Provider or ODBC driver, the Desktop Database ODBC Drivers, or the Visual FoxPro ODBC Driver.

What you need are drivers that are part of Microsoft Office (since Access is part of Office)

Kevin, it could be that if you are working on a fairly new platform, you may not have the JET Drivers that you need. AFAIK they are not included in recent MDAC distributables.

However, I do suggest you get in touch with your TaskCentre Business Partner about this issue.

If I can guide you further please contact me off line by email.

Bob, if I go into the ODBC Data Source Administrator thoughi I can freely set up connection using the Jet drivers, this just doesn't seem to be registering within TaskCentre...

It could also be that you have purchased TaskCentre for SalesLogix, i.e. the "Vendor-Aligned Package" (i.e. OEM) version of TaskCentre, not the FULL version.
The ODBC connector in TaskCentre for SalesLogix is designed to ONLY work with a SalesLogix database. It interrogates the databae somehow to check.
If you are located in the US/Canada, contact the person you bought it from to check which version you have. If you are in Asia/Pac, call me on +61 7 3891 7714 (Brisbane, Australia).
Hey, Ryan .... WHAT Alerts and Workflow forum??

Hey Kevin,

Just wanted to run thru the process of what you're trying to do, and what i did to connect to access and see if we can pinpoint exactly where your process is failing.

To connect to the database, using 4.1:
From Task Centre...I went to system-->tools-->input-->Database Query(ODBC)
Double Click on Database Query(ODBC) --> click on 'Add New' button
Chose Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)
(this opened a new window that allows me to select a new database)
Chose Select..then found the database (I'm using northwind.mdb)
After I hit 'OK' i was given a popup that says 'New Connection' And then asked for a name for this new connection, which I called 'Connection to P:\DanR\Northwind' as suggested as the drop down.
Then I highlighted it, and Selected the Test button, and it worked.

Next to make sure the system could see it, I went over to the tasks folder and made a new task.
Dragged the Database Query from the tools tab of the browser onto the task area, and chose the new connection i made from the very bottom of the window that popped up.
When I went to the query tab, it shows all the tables/fields/views/etc from the database.

At this point, everything seems to work with the standard implementation of Task Centre that we have for SLX.
See what happens when you run thru this workflow and let me know where it doesn't work.

Thanks

Dan,
If Kevin has the SalesLogix "version" of TaskCentre he can only connect to SalesLogix database(s) and no other data source via the "connection tool". A "simple upgrade" of his TC license will take care of this.

Because I know that my clients will be using multiple connections I only sell the unlimited connection version of TC (it isn't much more and you sure get a great bang for the dollar!)

Spot on the money, we have a SalesLogix version of Orbis TaskCentre. We'll have to look into an upgrade I suppose!

I just checked over my license.... TCS Enterprise.. I have the Database Query(ODBC) and Call Procedure(OLEDB). I think thats all someone would need.

I am going to guess that the ODBC Database Query isn't (Query Only) part of the SLX package. We got ours I think right from Orbis thru our SLX Partner.

Atleast you know why it's not working. Cheers!

Dan,
The vendor aligned version for SalesLogix has the ODBC connection capability.. it will ONLY hook to SalesLogix databases. Built that way.

Yes, you only can get TC via a TC partner, so your SLX partner must an authorized TC partner. Not all are for sure

Hi Bob

I work with Kevin Austin (Borat) who brought up this issue. After months of "discussions" with our support company, "you bought the wrong version", "you sold us the wrong version" etc, we have come to an agreement. We will be purchasing the extra tool to use.

We are being told that we need to buy the event tool MS SQL Server Trigger. I seem to think we need the Input tool Query Database (ODBC) but were not getting anywhere.

Can you recommend which one is correct, all we need to do is query an access database at set times (Not Triggered) and send the dataset in an email. We have the SalesLogix version of taskcenter currently which we have no problem reading from our Oracle or SQL Server and sending the data out.

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks
Steve

From what I understand, the original package you purchased only allowed connection to ONE data source SalesLogix.. on one server.

I have no idea what you now have and cannot make any recommendations as to what you need. I suggest you work with your Taskcentre Partner to get things squared away.

Since we are also a TaskCenter Partner, we cannot (and do not) get involved with licensing issues, etc of another partner's client. Discussing any specifics of this in a public forum is something we just do not do.

Apologies Bob, I didn't mean to drag you into our issue with our partner.

Appreciate your help identifying our problem above.

No Problem Steve.

Unfortunately, what we have here is the classic "expectations" scenario. When one is in a sales situation, both parties need to have a clear understanding of (customer) requirements and (vendor/software) capabilities. It's can be easy to miss the mark and when it happens, you have the scenario you are in.

I sold a "SalesLogix Version" to a client once (we now propose the "unlimited"" to everyone.. and NOT lead with a package that has less capabilities). It was made very clear (in writing) from the beginning that they had limitations (one database connection - SalesLogix) and they accepted it (in writing).
