Reset Admin Password Utility (v5 & Prior)

Utility to reset the SalesLogix Administrator user's password (ie: set as blank). Use this utility to get into a SalesLogix database that you no longer know the administrator account password for. Very useful for those times where you are given a database backup for a customer's system and can't get a hold of anyone who knows the password. Use at your own risk, although I have been using this since SLX 3 and have never had a problem. Note: this utility supports version 5.x and prior only!

Known other workaround

Hi Ryan - I always find it quicker to just slam in a blank password using isql/w or sql explorer e.g.

update sysdba.usersecurity set userpw = '62c3a78ae34a2b0f62' where userid = 'ADMIN'

Still, nice for the uninitiated !

Does that work on 6.0 too? Just curious if that will set it to blank on 6.0

Thanks

Unfortunately not. SalesLogix 6 appears to use both the USERID *and* the sitecode as the encryption seed, so you can no longer use a generic encrypted "blank" value for the admin user as before - but only a matter of time ;-)

Mike's workaround works in 6.1

Tech support gave me the string in Mike's comment above and it set a customers Admin password to blank. The database started as a 6.0 blank database.

Just to confirm on SLX 6 (6.1xxx and 6.2 RC1 for certain):

update SalesLogix.sysdba.usersecurity set userpw='62C3A78AE34A2B0F62'
where userid = 'admin'
